The group\u2019s largest business area, L\u00f8venskiold Handel, operates the home and building supply chain Maxbo. The IT department of L\u00f8venskiold Handel provides IT services to all companies in the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading  wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-the-beginning-of-extensive-cooperation\">The beginning of extensive cooperation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">The collaboration between <a href=\"https:\/\/lovenskiold.no\/lovenskiold-handel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">L\u00f8venskiold<\/a> and Conscia began at the end of 2018 when one of Conscia\u2019s consultants solved a previously \u201cunsolvable\u201d problem with the wireless network in one of Maxbo\u2019s warehouses. After that, the collaboration was expanded, and since then, Conscia has provided all Cisco infrastructure on networks and security, as well as ongoing consulting services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020, Lars Martin Birkeland was hired in a newly created position as IT Security Manager\/CISO, and he quickly began a risk assessment of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWith around 2000 employees in the entire group and so many different companies and stores under the same umbrella, downtime caused by a security breach would be economically catastrophic. Fortunately, the management was very receptive to the idea that we needed to secure ourselves, so we got the funds and opportunity to implement some measures,\u201d<\/em> says Birkeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">L\u00f8venskiold Handel alone has around 1500 employees distributed across 72 Maxbo stores and warehouses nationwide. Few of these employees sit behind a PC all day, but all use email and some services via mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt goes without saying that all these employees have different levels of knowledge and maturity when it comes to IT security, so we must have good solutions in place,\u201d<\/em> Birkeland continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading  wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-established-solutions-that-work\">Established solutions that work<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">L\u00f8venskiold chose Cisco as their supplier because it is important for them to use well-established, thoroughly tested solutions and assure that they will work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOur good relationship with Conscia and their expertise in Cisco also contribute to our continued use of Cisco. We have regular meetings with Conscia, and we find them very on top of things and service-oriented. Our dedicated Conscia consultant works so well and closely with us that we consider him a \u2018L\u00f8venskiolder.&#8217;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading  wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-why-cisco-umbrella\">Why Cisco Umbrella?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">The implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/umbrella.cisco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cisco Umbrella<\/a> occurred at the beginning of 2021. The solution was chosen for its high level of security and simplicity, and it was considered a low-hanging initiative that would make a big difference.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"block_acf-block-6a9987769d051\" class=\"quote  quote--is-style-primary\">\n\t<div class=\"quote__quote\">\n\t\t\n\n<p class=\"has-heading-xxs-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We get peace of mind with this solution \u2013 it works like a light in the dark. Now we have full visibility into all our traffic,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"quote__contact-wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"quote__contact select\">\n\t\t\t\t<p class=\"quote__contact-name\">\n\t\t\t\t\tLars Martin Birkeland\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<p class=\"quote__contact-title\">\n\t\t\t\t\tIT Security Manager\/CISO\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">Setting up and implementing the solution is quick and easy; you simply point your traffic through Umbrella\u2019s Cloud Service, and all traffic is secured.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cEven though we had good solutions for cleaning emails, both before they reach us, on the email server, and on various clients, it is still conceivable that the occasional email with malicious code will slip through. If we get malicious code on one of our clients or servers, it will often try to \u2018call home\u2019 to request further instructions or download even more malicious code,\u201d<\/em> Birkeland explains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">Since the malicious code is now inside the firewall, its generated traffic will be interpreted as legitimate traffic. With Umbrella, the malicious code cannot \u2018call home,\u2019 thus, further damage is stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThis gives us excellent security \u2013 Cisco Umbrella should be mandatory for all Norwegian companies,\u201d<\/em> said Birkeland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading  wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-the-road-ahead-with-conscia\">The Road Ahead with Conscia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">The company will get an extended and enhanced benefit from Cisco Umbrella when they soon connect to <a href=\"https:\/\/conscia.com\/uk\/offerings\/cybersecurity\/detect-and-respond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Conscia\u2019s SOC service<\/a>. Umbrella then becomes one of many data sources that the SOC service will use to monitor and secure L\u00f8venskiold\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAlthough the SOC solution is delivered from Conscia in Slovenia, it doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s on the other side of Europe, as we have local Conscia people who will assist us as needed.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, L\u00f8venskiold also plans to implement SD-WAN for more secure and smoother network delivery. This will involve renewing all physical network infrastructure provided by Cisco and Conscia. As Birkeland concludes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOver the past two years, we have made great progress in security.
