Apple's adoption of Wi-Fi 6E marks the standard's move to the mainstream – is your network ready?

Apple’s latest Pro models highlight Wi-Fi 6E, a game-changer for wireless networks. Extending Wi-Fi 6 into the 6GHz band, Wi-Fi 6E offers four times more channels than 5GHz, reducing interference and boosting speeds beyond 1Gbps with lower latency. This benefits dense environments like healthcare and education, enabling high-bandwidth uses such as VR and AR. However, shorter wavelengths mean 6GHz struggles to penetrate walls, requiring careful network planning and surveys. Currently limited to indoor use in the UK due to spectrum sharing, Wi-Fi 6E is poised to become standard. ITGL can help design your network refresh—contact [email protected].

As the NHS looks to expand its data operations with FDP, total system visibility has never been more vital

This week, the NHS took a major step toward digital transformation with the £330 million contract award for a Federated Data Platform (FDP), designed to unify data across Trusts and Integrated Care Systems. By enabling secure, system-wide data sharing, the FDP aims to enhance patient care, streamline operations, and support key priorities like elective recovery. But as digital data volumes rise, so does the need for system visibility. Tools like Cisco’s Observability Platform and ThousandEyes help NHS Trusts like Birmingham Community Healthcare proactively monitor performance, quickly diagnose issues, and ensure critical systems run smoothly—enabling more reliable care and smarter digital innovation.

To achieve secure interoperability, the NHS must first embrace network segmentation

In the drive toward interoperability, NHS Trusts risk introducing serious cyber vulnerabilities if foundational infrastructure is overlooked. Despite nearly all doctors citing poor interoperability as a barrier to digital transformation, simply connecting new IoT or BYOD devices to legacy networks can expose critical systems to attack. Network segmentation offers a solution—limiting each device’s access to only what’s necessary, reducing the impact of any breach. Cisco ISE, already used across the NHS, enables effective segmentation and Zero Trust policies. ITGL helps Trusts maximise these tools, ensuring secure, modern networks that support innovation without compromising security. Contact us at [email protected].

Avoiding user disenfranchisement in digital transformation

True digital transformation in education must be inclusive. At ITGL, we’ve seen firsthand how even small tech changes can unintentionally exclude users—particularly those with limited digital literacy. That’s why we champion thoughtful, user-led implementation. Our work with Coventry University shows the power of meeting users where they are: by integrating WhatsApp into their Webex platform, they made Clearing more accessible and less stressful, leading to their highest number of conversations in five years. Digital change should never leave anyone behind—it must empower all users. At ITGL, we ensure transformation is built around people, not just platforms.

Digital transformation at South Thames Colleges Group

South Thames Colleges Group (STCG), comprising Carshalton, Kingston, Merton, and South Thames Colleges across south London, partnered with Conscia to unify and future-proof their previously disparate digital infrastructures. The new solution delivers consistent, reliable access across all sites, supports hybrid working for 1,400 staff, and enhances distance learning for students. It also improves energy efficiency, aiding STCG’s net-zero goals, while reducing IT support time and enabling more focus on development. Roberto Volo, Director of IT Services, calls the transformation “accelerating learning provision by a decade,” empowering growth without infrastructure limits.
