Vejle Municipality strengthens network security with enhanced visibility and proactive tools

Vejle Municipality has recently strengthened its detection and response capabilities by partnering with Conscia’s Security Operations Center (SOC). This investment is a direct response to the increasingly complex threat landscape. The rationale is that improved monitoring and quicker response to the growing number of threats will enable the municipality to more rapidly shut down security incidents, protecting its users, devices, and systems.

What is happening in cybersecurity today? How do we identify the threats that matter most? And how do we prioritize our resources to focus on the most critical security tasks? These are some key considerations behind Vejle Municipality’s recent investment in a Security Operations Center (SOC) through a Managed Detection and Response agreement with Conscia.

“As technology evolves and the threat landscape becomes more complex, we have decided to enhance our cybersecurity efforts by investing proactively to stay ahead of emerging security challenges, says Brian Slot, Head of Digitalization and IT at Vejle Municipality.

“To ensure round-the-clock protection of our network, we have partnered with experts who can complement our internal resources and capabilities. That’s what a SOC does—it provides us with far more data and insights into global threats than we could generate on our own within the context of Vejle Municipality.”

Real-time information from the SOC

In addition to seeking increased network visibility, Vejle Municipality emphasizes that it can now respond promptly to threats with real-time information from the SOC.

“We have upgraded our security processes from manual reviews to a more advanced and efficient approach. We now receive monthly reports, allowing us to act strategically and focus on prioritized issues. Moreover, the security solution includes AI capabilities that enable us to detect and respond to suspicious activity early,” says Carsten Pedersen, Head of IT Operations & Support at Vejle Municipality. He further explains that the security department handles many ambiguous alerts daily.

“Our security department processes a large volume of data and potential threats daily. To optimize our response and resource allocation, we have chosen to collaborate with specialists who can help filter and prioritize these alerts,” says Carsten Pedersen. He also notes that Vejle Municipality implements several additional security measures, such as vulnerability scanning of systems and networks, as part of their Managed Service agreement.

Risk minimization, knowledge, and support

The investment in an external SOC is part of Vejle Municipality’s proactive and strategic approach to cybersecurity.

“While we won’t reduce security resources, our partnership with Conscia allows us to leverage specialized expertise and benefit from economies of scale. It’s more efficient to rely on Conscia’s knowledge and support than to build that capacity in-house,” says Brian Slot.

He emphasizes that the IT department’s mission remains unchanged: ensuring stable system operations so that both employees and citizens feel secure.

‘The task has become more challenging as cyber threats have grown more complex. That’s why we’ve invested in greater network visibility and better proactive tools—both critical for minimizing security risks,’ Slot concludes.
